Track Wise

Embedded Resistors

Trackwise have responded to the increased demand in the market for embedded passives technology and are developing a process for embedding resistors in their top end PTFE Printed Circuit Boards.

Trackwise are one of the very few PCB companies with the know how and technology to develop this process with Teflon Laminates. The inclusion of embedded resistors is particularly suitable for applications where space is extremely limited and there is a demand for a very high level of functionality, reduced cost and improved reliability.

Printed circuit board embedded passive components (resistors, capacitors, and inductors) offer many advantages to application design and circuit functionality. Among these advantages are reduced product system cost, increased functionality, and improved signal integrity.

As electronic devices become smaller and lighter, associated PCBs need to be smaller and thinner. To reduce the size of PCBs, trace lines are made finer, and spaces for electrical interconnections on the PCB are reduced.

Integration of passive discrete components (such as embedded resistors) into the PCB is also useful in reducing the size of PCBs. Integrating the functionality of passive discrete components into a PCB's laminate substrate, frees up PCB surface area available for discrete components. Consequently, the use of embedded passive components allows for increased device functionality by incorporation of a greater, number of active components without using more PCB surface area.

Furthermore, embedding passive components into a PCB not only allows for further miniaturization of electronic devices, but also improves reliability and electrical performance.
