TrackSlip® – a new friction-buster for VET antennas

TrackSlip® is a new low-friction surface finish for variable electrical tilt (VET) antennas which does away with the need for a sliding interface under the phase-shifting element. (This innovation is covered by UK patent no. 2418 542)

VET antennas using printed microstrip-feed networks typically achieve beam steering (adjustment of the downtilt angle) by means of capacitively-coupled phase shifter elements. The frictional forces between the elements must be reduced to the absolute minimum for precise operation.

Trackslip is a PTFE-loaded solder resist which allows the elements to slide smoothly together many thousands of times without wear. As it is based on a conventional PCB solder resist, TrackSlip
® is compatible with all standard, PTFE and foam laminates and can be applied using conventional resist techniques in complex, localised areas. The new finish is being applied as standard to all new antennas.
