Trackwise to present at EIPC conference

Trackwise to present at EIPC conference

Trackwise is delighted to have been invited to present on 'A New Dimension of Flexible PCB's' at the EIPC 2017 Summer Conference, Solihull, Birmingham, June 1&2.

Large format PCBs have long been a specialism of  Trackwise - up to 2.4metres plated through hole and 2.8metres non plated through hole. However, a Trackwise patented process innovation has further extended its capability to the manufacture of multilayer flexible PCBs of unlimited length. The benefits of flex PCBs as a replacement to traditional wiring harnessess so as to save weight, save space and increase reliability, are well understood and are at the core of all modern electronics.  However their application has been limited due to the current maximum size.

Trackwise' innovation has removed this limit and thus the proven benefits of multilayer Flex PCBs currently enjoyed primarliy at unit level can now be realised at subsystem and system level.

Marketed as Improved Harness Technology™, Trackwise will address the Conference highlighting some of the challenges and opportunities that this innovation presents.

Trackwise presents IHT at Paris Air Show

Trackwise presents IHT at Paris Air Show

Trackwise will be showcasing Improved Harness Technology™ (IHT) at the International Paris Air Show on 21 June 2017.

A patented process innovation has extended Trackwise’s capability to the manufacture of multilayer flexible PCBs of unlimited length (>8 metres, 300 inches). In high value, mass-critical applications such as aerospace, boards of such length can be used as a high reliability, lightweight alternative to conventional wiring harnesses, offering significant benefits in terms of repeatability, installation times, space and weight – up to 75% saving. Furthermore, the planar nature of flex PCB’s makes them entirely suited to embedding into composites.

Please visit us on Stand S06Paris Air Lab in Hall Concorde - an area at the heart of the show dedicated to putting the spotlight on technology innovations of the future.

Enhanced PIM capability

Enhanced PIM capability

Trackwise has extended its PIM (Passive Intermodulation) expertise with the purchase of Rosenberger multi frequency PIM testing equipment.

Installed in-house at its manufacturing facility in Tewkesbury, the equipment includes a Rosenberger IM-00722-BB, 2013, IA-085, rack mounted passive intermodulation analyzer control unit (RX range 698-2200 MHz; TX range 698-2200 MHz) and a Rosenberger PCS AWS 1900, 2012, A1603, rack mounted passive intermodulation analyzer filter unit; range 1900 MHz.

Trackwise has invested many hours into testing and developing a deep understanding of the very fine design and manufacturing parameters that can affect the PIM performance of antenna PCBs. As PIM levels of -115 dBm/-158 dBc and lower, are increasingly becoming a necessary performance requirement of today’s RF components, investment in this latest test equipment will help to ensure that Trackwise remains at the forefront of producing PIM compliant antenna PCBs.

Keeping standards up

Following recent annual reviews Trackwise is delighted to achieved continued accreditation to both AS9100C and Cyber Essentials Plus

AS9100C provides the highest of global standards for quality assurance in the Aerospace, Space and Defence industries. While similar to ISO 9001:2008, AS9100C has 100 additional requirements specific to meeting the stringent, complex and unique demands of these industries.

Launched in 2014, the Cyber Essentials scheme is designed to help UK businesses protect themselves against the ever growing threat of cyber attack, and provides verifiable certification of their abilities. Cyber Essentials Plus is the more advanced of the two – tier scheme, requiring external audit and 100% compliance against stringent process and systems criteria.

In recent times high profile global cyber security breaches have clearly demonstrated the threat and implications of such attacks are considerable. Trackwise takes this issue very seriously and in maintaining this accreditation we want our customers to be assured of Trackwise’ commitment to ensuring the security and protection of their data and of our IT systems and business operations.

Trackwise innovation granted US patent for flexible multilayer PCB manufacture

Trackwise innovation granted US patent for flexible multilayer PCB manufacture

Trackwise is delighted to announce that its manufacturing process innovation, which enables the manufacture of flexible multilayer printed circuit boards of unlimited length, has been granted a patent in the USA under patent number 9226410.

Trackwise is marketing the application of this innovation as ‘Improved Harness Technology’. In high-value, mass-critical applications, boards of such length can be used as an alternative to traditional wiring harnesses, offering significant benefits particularly in terms of reliability, repeatability, installation times and moreover in the reduction of space and weight – up to 75% saving.

“We are delighted to have secured our IP in the US on this breakthrough process which we are confident will open significant new opportunities for the application of flexible multilayer PCBs” commented Trackwise Managing Director, Philip Johnston. “By effectively removing length limitations and the requirement for intermediate connections representing additional weight, cost and complexity as well as a source of potential unreliability, the proven benefits of multilayer flex PCBs currently enjoyed primarily at unit level can now be realised at subsystem and system level.”

This innovation is also patented in the UK under patent number 2498994.

Trackwise delivers to major international project

Trackwise delivers to major international project

Trackwise is proud to have developed and delivered to The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of University of Manchester two prototype Mid-frequency Aperture Arrays for the Square Kilometre Array.

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is a major international project to build the next generation radio telescope. The project is currently in the design phase for SKA phase 1. The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of University of Manchester (UoM) is a member of Mid-Frequency Aperture Array (MFAA) consortium and is leading developments of Front-End Design technologies by collaborating with other institutions. The work is mainly concerned with fully integrated Front-Ends including array antennas and associated LNAs, operating between 500MHz and 1500MHz.

The major objectives of the MFAA Consortium are to prove the technological maturity of the Mid-Frequency Aperture Array technology, and to evaluate different concepts of front-end technology that can serve to assist in the preliminary design of the MFAA. When a concept is selected, it will then be taken further in SKA phase 2 and currently it belongs to Advanced Instrumentation Programme.

The contract with Trackwise was for manufacturing two finite array antenna prototypes (square and triangular array) including pre-production mechanical and thermal design resulting in an integrated front-end panel, based on an array antenna design done by UoM and LNA design by Obs. de Paris, located in Nancay, France.

John Darrock RIP

John was born on 6th April 1955 and died after a short illness on 29th April 2015.

John worked with Trackwise for many years in the early 2000s on establishing business strategy and export markets – and those efforts have a lasting impact today.  Trackwise is proud to have been John’s first client as Outcome Direct.

As with all of his life, this work was done with great humour and with genuine empathy to all whom he encountered.  He will be sorely missed.

The thoughts and sympathy of all at Trackwise are sent to Karina, his family and friends.
