Aerospace
Reducing the weight of cables in aircraft by up to 60% can significantly lower fuel consumption and costs while also contributing to a decrease in carbon emissions. Amphenol Trackwise’s unique manufacturing capabilities are designed to help achieve these weight savings.
Why flex is ideal for Aerospace?
Flexible multilayer PCBs can offer significant benefits over conventional aerospace harness technology and wiring harnesses, including:
Lighter
up to 60% weight saving
More repeatable
roll-to-roll mechanised process
Longer
length unlimited
Cheaper & Easier
to assemble
Smaller
up to 70% smaller
More Reliable
digital design / highly automated process
Our patented process allows us to manufacture flexible multilayer printed circuit boards of any length. Currently, the longest requested by a customer has been more than 72 metres / 236 feet in length, making it the world’s largest flexible multilayer PCB.

Trackwise’ unique patented manufacturing process has been developed to enable the production of multilayer, flexible printed circuits of any length. This patented* process is called Improved Harness Technology TM (IHT).
Flexible multilayer PCBs were initially designed in the mid-20th century to replace traditional wiring. However, they faced limitations in length and needed intermediate connections for extended runs. These connections, combined with the inherent weight of wiring, contributed to increased overall weight, cost, complexity, and the risk of unreliability.
All the benefits of Twisted Pair, but using flex
If your project required LVDS, twisted pairs can be represented in length unlimited FPCs whilst maintaining all the benefits of traditional wiring including reduced AMI and improved signal integrity.
You can find more information regarding replacing shielded twisted pairs with flex in our white paper. Alternatively, to speak to us directly about your project, get in contact.
