Trackwise supports STEMworks’ primary schools initiative

Trackwise has joined forces with with other Gloucestershire based companies to ensure the continuation of STEMworks’ Computer Control in Primary Schools initiative.

For the two years 2012/13 and 2013/14, GFirst LEP provided funding to support the programme, but for 2014/15 GFirst LEP were unable to fund the project directly. To maintain the continuity of the programme individual companies of the Advanced Manufacturing Group (AMG) of the LEP agreed to fund the project. The amount pledged was supplemented by grants from EDF, Horizon Nuclear and GCHQ, which enabled the programme to again involve 40 primary school workshops.

The objectives of the project are to:
– Reach a broad range of pupils in the upper primary age range and make them aware of the wide use of computers in the home and in business.
– Start pupils thinking about programming, logic, and how to construct a computer program.
– Engage schools across the county which do not normally participate in STEM based activities.
– Inspire students to think about computing
– Raise awareness of the range of local engineering businesses where STEM skills are required.

“Trackwise is delighted to have added its support to such a worthy initiative,” commented Managing Director, Philip Johnston. “In looking to the future it is vitally important that, as an industry, we engage and inspire the next generation of talented engineers at an early age.”
